Virginia Tech undertook to create and maintain two collections for the Open Archives Initiative.
The first is our existing collection of Electronic Theses and Dissertations authored at Virginia Tech since 1996 ("VT-ETD"). The collection is ably maintained by the Scholarly Communications Project at the Virginia Tech library. The DLRL works with Scholarly Communications to provide Open Archives search, harvesting and presentation functions on top of the existing collection.
The second is a superset of the first, serving the international Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Both these collections can be considered to be subsets of the Networked University Digital Library (NUDL).
NDLTD currently employs a Union Archive to merge together collections from members sites and republish the data as a single OAI-compliant archive to service providers. More information on this project can be found on the NDLTD website: http://www.ndltd.org/union.html
The production user interface is developed and maintained by VTLS and can be found at http://www.vtls.com/ndltd
A local experimental user interface can be found at http://oai.dlib.vt.edu/~etdunion/
